Ende!? Anfang?!

End!? Beginning?! 70th Anniversary of the liberation of the Buchenwald concentration camp and the end of war in Weimar 1945

The Civic Alliance against Right Wing Extremism would like to bring to notice the multilingual program of the multiple sessions around the commemorance of the 70th anniversary of Buchenwald concentration camp liberation to the survivors, their families and descendants. It is a matter of great importance to us that this program is readable in the native languages of the people who liberated our country from Nazi fascism. For that we would like to thank the translators who took great effort to make this possible. Our group of voluntarily working citizens will be also a part of the considerable and large program, i.a. as a co-organiser of the annually contemporary witness talk.

In addition we would like to thank the initiators of the program, in particular the Department of Culture of Weimar, Buchenwald Memorial and the German National Theatre. A complete overview in german about all events and sessions can be found on the internet platform of Buchenwald and Mittelbau-Dora Memorials Foundation. A brochure can also be acquired at the tourist information located at the market place or directly at Buchenwald Memorial.

End!? Beginning?! 70th Anniversary of the liberation of the Buchenwald concentration camp and the end of war in Weimar 1945

WELCOME NOTE
End!? Beginning?! 70th anniversary of the liberation of the Buchenwald concentration camp and the end of war in Weimar 1945

The 70th anniversary of the liberation is forming a caesura: for the last time a greater group of former prisoners and Veterans of the U.S. Army is coming to Weimar. The significance of their experiences for the "constitution of a new world of peace and freedom" like it was formulated in the oath of Buchenwald on April 19th 1945, will take therefore a big part in this springs events in Weimar. Many of those who survived Buchenwald, some of them with names such as Stéphane Hessel,Josef Szajna, Imre Kertész, Jorge Semprún or Eugen Kogon gave important impulses, shaping a society that defends and promotes the life of all people. It was the knowledge of the fragility of men that encouraged them to put themselves out against any harm of human rights. How can their experiences help to face the challenges of todays world in which people have to flee from war and terror and on the other side the nationalism rises his head again? We want to invite you to face these urging questions together with us and we look forward to see you at one of the numerous events.
